S.T.A.L.K.E.R. : Shadow of Chernobyl

April 26, 1986. Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant near Pripyat, Ukraine. At 01:23 local time the fourth reactor explodes and causes a nuclear meltdown, blanketing nearby towns with a lethal dose of radiation. The residents are immediately evacuated. A plume of fallout drifts throughout western Russia and Europe, reaching its dark hands as far as the UK and across the sea to North America. A small handful of people perish, while tens of thousands feel the after effects for decades to come. The world picks up the pieces and moves on, rebuilding itself as if the accident had never happened.

But not in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is a hybrid RPG/first person shooter that takes place in an alternate reality centered around the 1986 explosion. In the game a second explosion occurred and caused strange events to take place, changing the plants and animals in the area and even altering the laws of physics. Survive in a stunningly realistic world while interacting with intelligent NPCs who react to the path you've chosen in the game. With over ten years in the making, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is poised to become the most exciting game this year.

Don't you know how much 5% of "a lot of people" is? Even if there's only 1 million gamers around the world, that'll still be 50.000 people. That's a lot of missed sales, while there's nice cross-platform tools to make a game run on *any* platform.
Is there a mac version? If not, they're missing another 5%. That's 100.000 in 1 million already. Mac and Linux have enough in common that a Mac port would make a Linux port really easy.

WHERE IS THE LINUX PORT?
written by Linux_Alien , May 09, 2007
There are an estimated 18 million Linux users worldwide. Take note of this when you develop a game, because that figure is going to soar, especially now vista has shown itself to be an absolute failure in all aspects of the system! If software companies want to ignore the Linux community, then I am sure most people like me will boycott those companies, just as I did Valve. I think this game looks great and the story is excellent. Keep up the good work and port this game! Thankyou smilies/smiley.gif

Why would anyone ask for a game to be ported if 'no-one' cares about it? your a moron mate and if they pull this post, your still a moron. get a life, learn to spell LINUX and get ready for it!

"no one cares about gaming on leenox"

Oh really? Tell me then why ALL id software games work in Linux? I have done little bit testing and surprisingly Linux-version of f. ex. Doom 3 is faster than the Windows-version! You are just jealous that YOU DON'T OWN ANY LINUX DISTRO!

And tell me, if no one cares about gaming Linux, why Wine and Cedega are even bothered making Windows emulator??? GET THE FACTS! And don't underestimate the power of Linux gamers/users!

linux fanatic == unrealistic statement
written by Linux_Alien , May 24, 2007
if you mean i support a free and open operating system, void of the controls and restrictions set in place to control you, if i support an operating system that is far superior in usefullness as it comes ready set up with all the tools you'd need, that i don't have to download 50 programs every time i reinstall and have to pay for overrated overpriced programs when a free version does it far better and generally has better features and is more powerfull. if you say i am a fanatic about these things, then yeah, i guess i am. but the plain and simple truth is, linux is better than windows, granted it time to get here, but since its major release in 95, look at how far it has come. oh wait, you don't know how far it's come, you just listen to your so-called friends that diss linux because they want you to stay where you are. if you gave linux a chance for one month, i mean honestly gave it a chance, i know it can be daunting at first. you soon realise how powerful it really is and you start to wonder why more people are not using it. the fact is, linux is free and is non-profit and as such they don't get a huge budget for advertising. and if you condone the use of microsoft over linux to your friends purely on the basis that microsoft is all you know, then you either don't know linux or your not their friend. friends tell the truth and help each other out. and thats what we intend to do, regardless of uneducated morons who pretend to understand whats going on!

Sotamarsu here here, linux even code for windows, look at id's games free projects, nexuiz, based on quake1, qudos, based on quake2, and tremulous, based on quake3 (my favourite) we aren't biased, we just have a choice and we prefer linux. its stable, secure, fast and just an awesome community to be a part of.
Rock on Linux, freedom and power to the people and watch your monitarily materialistic empires collapse!
ports
written by Linux_Alien , May 24, 2007
this is a comment to the developers!
ok, if you don't want to port linux, why don't you allow the community to port it? as i said in a previous post about the number of estimated linux boxes out there, it would be foolish not to consider them as an open market. moreso open because after not having to pay microsofts fees, i have more money left over for you guys!
I would love to have this game and if the only way i can run it is to run it on wine or cedega etc, then so be it. but what can the harm be in allowing or producing a port anyway? i don't post ever in these sorts of forums unless i am absolutely taken away and MUST have it. and your game blew me away. i want to play it and i have the money ready and waiting for you. come on devs smilies/wink.gif you know it makes sense and its another star under the belt in showing that you care about us. we were windows users once too and you catered to us just fine, we kept you going and now we are letting you know that we feel it necesary to migrate to linux. please let us have a resolve. a port or permission to create a port for you. i am sure if you announced it, the linux devs would love to join in and you'd see how beneficial working with the opensource community really is smilies/smiley.gif))) thanks for listening, i know i drone on, but aparently i'm fanatical. i see myself as sensible really, but each to his own.
Linux gaming

I concur with having a linux port. There really is a market of gamers itching to own many games that don't get ported. Porting this and I know many would buy this game, myself included. Forgetting about linux would overshadow a lot of the market. smilies/smiley.gif

i did not say i hate leenox, i think it is faster, has much more stability and possibilities without containig drm and spyware. i would rather say leenox (LINUX) is beeing ignored by the gaming sector, you cannot say every user of it plays games on it or exactly stalker. it is not economical to develop a game for such a small platform. mainly i think the greatest gaming support for it are dedicated servers smilies/grin.gif .
i like my XP-SP1 it is perfectly configured for me and does what it is supposed to do. that's why i prefer it to your distro, having problems with a XP is having a problem between keyboard and ofice chair...

"i did not say i hate leenox"

I never said you did!!

"i think it is faster, has much more stability and possibilities without containig drm and spyware"

just a few of linux's benefits

"it is not economical to develop a game for such a small platform"

see now this is absolute nonesense, you obviously are not paying attention, its not about economics, it's about stance, ID Softwares stance is always to port, or to allow a port, ports are not that hard to do if you know what your doing and if the linux community were able to port it, where is the cost issue?

"mainly i think the greatest gaming support for it are dedicated servers"

most definately not, with the current rise in desktop distributions, linux is fast becoming the ultimate desktop platform and the only games that only make it to server status are because the software houses don't allow and won't do a port! You can't run it on linux if they won't let you, hence this whole asking bit?

"i like my XP-SP1 it is perfectly configured for me and does what it is supposed to do"

great, fine, each to his own, but we do have a choice you know and people should not be left out because of their choices when there are perfectly reasonable steps that could be taken to ensure they aren't!

"that's why i prefer it to your distro"

Linux is not "my" distro, it's "our" distro, it's public domain and therefore we all own it and not to use something thats so good and free, your losing out, not us
At least most windows users have had the brains to multi-boot with linux and have the best of both worlds!

"having problems with a XP is having a problem between keyboard and ofice chair... "

screaming pebcak to fortify that windows is fit for purpose when everyone who's anyone in the windows world knows that you can't rely on windows being stable or secure or fast is a joke, windows comes broken, you spend a week patching it, a month running it, then if anything odd happens, you do the 2 part repair aproach, re-boot, then re-install!
I've had windows from dos5.0 and linux over 8 years and i know whats available in both camps, and the simple fact is, the benefits of linux in true calculation with its advantages and disadvantages far outweighs the benefits of windows in its true calculation with its advantages and disadvantages!
Linux is the next logical step in mankinds software ladder and those who ignore it, are ignoring themselves, because linux is what you own, unlike windows which is proprietary and every edition gets more bloated it forces you to unnecesarily upgrade your hardware. i have a p2 350 with latest linux on it, can it possibly run xp? no way!
I won't bother posting back after this coz your obviously stuck in your own FUD opinions and maybe one day we'll see you out there, till then, goodbye smilies/smiley.gif
A thought

Ok, I have to chime in on this one. I am a windows/Linux user and I am a computer consultant with an MCP cert . I have found that I can not make a living fixing Linux, as it doesn't break. I do how ever make a good living fixing Windows as it breaks all the time. I have helped a few folks migrate to openoffice and to full Linux distros and the only calls I get from those folks are pointers. These are the same people that I used to have to go out every week to fix their so called rock solid XP systems. XP has issues, lots of them, and few are user related as you will find if you check technet. The only thing I still use windows for is Stalker, I even have Oblivion running under Linux better then it did under windows . I see no reason to stick with Windows and it's security flaws and built in monitoring and spyware . Naw, I don't need a system that lies to the owner and serves Microsoft first and the user second, if at all. Only reason it's around is for the few games I can't get running under Linux, and shortly I will simply not bother with any games I can't run under Linux. boycott them? That's silly, it's not a boycott if I refuse to buy a product I can't use even if I did buy it. Stalker is the last windows only game I'll be getting, and as soon as it's running under Linux, bye bye windows. And to the Devs... The Linux game community is growing, chances are good that much of the code in your game was first done on Linux and then ported to windows, if you don't want to put in the effort then allow us to, it will only give you a larger market.

Most data transferred around the world is done by linux. The majority of servers in this world use Linux. Desktop users are just catching up.
just saying..

most linux users have low-end computers. They can't even play new games. So if a game maker should jump from windows to linux than at start it will be most unprofitable. Though... isn't pirating on linux easier? Maybe that's one of the reasons.

"most linux users have low-end computers. They can't even play new games. So if a game maker should jump from windows to linux than at start it will be most unprofitable."

Utter rubbish, The only reason your probably basing this fact is that Linux is a very resource-friendly and optimized system. Just because we can run the likes of Compiz Fusion with all the glory turned up on something which won't even entertain Vista in mega-basic form just proves again Linux is about speed, stability and optimization, UNLIKE Windows and it's bloat.

A friend of mine has a dual-core dual-cpu Opteron system as his desktop with 2x8800GTS PCI-e cards in SLI. Overkill for the system?? Probably, but it certainly does run well.

"Though... isn't pirating on linux easier? Maybe that's one of the reasons."

Again more tripe. No matter what the platform is, a program can be copied/cracked/patched. But don't forget - the majority of applications on Linux are FREE and/or OpenSource. If vendors wish to charge you for software, they can still implement a serial key system. But if its a worthwhile app, Linux users tend not to have issues paying for the software, unlike the majority of Windows users I know, who always look for 'Torrents' or 'Cracks' for the latest vista bloat or other applications.
